There's a moment I keep coming back to. I was deep in the flow of building, the kind of afternoon where hours pass and you barely notice, when the tool I was using stopped me cold. Another upgrade. Another wall. Another fee just to keep going.
I sat back and looked at what I'd just paid for, and something in me shifted. It wasn't the cost that stung. It was the pattern I suddenly saw clearly for the first time: gatekeeping dressed up as progress, limits sold as features, and heart-centered leaders like me paying again and again just to stay in the game. I'd been in tech long enough to know better, and even I felt it. I could only imagine how it felt for someone who just wanted to share their purpose and actually reach the people waiting to hear from them.
That was the moment Beyond 'Biz' Experience stopped being an idea and became something I knew I had to build. For every Heart-Centered leader who'd ever felt like the tools were running the show instead of them.
The Dream I Built for Myself First
I've spent years behind the scenes. Building things, connecting pieces, making sure other people's visions had a place to live online. I was good at it, and I loved it, but I was always certain there was a better way than the scattered setup most people were carrying: a website here, a booking calendar there, an email automation tool somewhere else, each with its own login and monthly fee, held together with workarounds and a little hope.
The purpose gets buried under all of that. The leader gets buried under all of that.
So I built what I wished existed. A dashboard built with heart first. Tools that work together the way a team does. A community where you don't have to figure everything out alone. And I built it so the leaders who use it actually own it; their space, their contacts, their content, their presence. No more paying rent on someone else's platform just to keep the lights on.
Beyond 'Biz' Experience is what happens when you stop asking permission from the tools and start building from what you know to be true. Seen. Heard. Understood. Wholeheartedly. That's what every heart-centered leader deserves, and that's what I set out to give them.
The Dream That Was Already Growing
At 18 months old, Vincent joined our family. He is my son in every way that matters, and he has been one of my greatest teachers.
He works harder than most people will ever see. Every day, he carries the weight of trying to move through a world that wasn't built for how his brain works. He wants so much to be like everyone else, and he tries with everything he has. But that kind of effort has a cost. And when he comes home, to the one place that is truly his, all of that bottled-up pressure comes with him.
Watching him over the years taught me what it really means to need a place where you're completely, unconditionally seen. Not managed. Not explained. Not asked to be a little less or a little different. Just seen, and welcomed exactly as you are.
That's what Heart Strings In Motion is being built to be. A forever home for our forever children with 20 sensory-stable studio apartments in Greater Moncton, the first of what I hope will be many across the province. It exists to answer the question that haunts every aging parent and caregiver who has a forever-dependent son or daughter: what happens to them when we're gone?
Our answer is a place where they belong. A forever home that's safe, stable, and built around who they actually are.
Where the Two Dreams Meet
I didn't plan for these two things to find each other. I didn't sit down one day and map out how a platform for heart-centered leaders would connect to permanent supportive housing for forever-dependent individuals.
But looking back, the thread was always there.
Both were born from the same quiet ache: watching people who deserved to be fully seen having to make themselves smaller just to fit into spaces that weren't made for them. Heart-centered leaders squeezing their message into tools that didn't fit. Vincent squeezing himself into a world that didn't quite fit either. The belief underneath both was the same: your pain doesn't define you. It informs you. And what you do with that information is your purpose.
When I chose marketing, years before Vincent, I didn't know I was practicing for something bigger. When Vincent joined our family, I had no idea that alongside me, he would one day be part of something that helps others feel what he deserves to feel every single day.
Now, with every online platform I build and every leader who joins the Beyond 'Biz' Experience community, 5% goes toward building our first Heart Strings In Motion forever home. It's not a campaign. It's just what happens when two heartbeats share the same rhythm.
What I Carry Because of Both
There are still days when this feels too big. When I look at what it takes to build a community from the ground up, and then look at the work ahead for Heart Strings In Motion, I have to remind myself that I've never needed everything to be finished to keep going.
What I've learned from Vincent, and from every heart-centered leader I've walked beside, is that belonging isn't something you earn when the work is done. It's something you feel the moment someone looks at you and says, without hesitation: you're welcome here, exactly as you are.
That's what I'm building toward. Not a product, not a platform, not a building. A feeling. The one you get when you finally stop explaining yourself and start being yourself, and someone is right there to meet you.
Watching both of these dreams take flight at the same time, after so many years of carrying them in my heart, still takes my breath away.
If any part of this story is sitting with you today, I'd love for you to know more. You can read about Heart Strings In Motion at heartstringsinmotion.org, or explore what the Beyond 'Biz' Experience could be for you at susanrobichaud.ca. No pressure. Just an open door.
And if there’s something you’ve been carrying quietly, an idea or a calling that just won’t let go of you, I’m curious: what if that’s your dream, simply waiting for you to say, "Let's Do It!"?
